It's The Phantom Menace Month on The Nicsperiment
This month marks the 25th anniversary of 1999's Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, whose release isn't just a cultural cornerstone for 1999, but for my life. I was 17, had recently gained the freedom of my first car, and the freedom of just a little bit of disposable income from my grocery store cashier job...after paying the bills, of course. More importantly, though, I had freedom of thought, something I somewhat sadly lost a little bit of through the course of college and the more narrow-mindedness of adulthood. I loved The Phantom Menace in 1999, then realized when I got to college that I wasn't supposed to. However, maybe thanks to my 90s Movies Podcast, or maybe just because of the wisdom gained in growing older, I've come back around to my 17-year-old view that I don't care about accepted thought and opinion: The Phantom Menace has flaws, but that doesn't mean I can't love it! I love The Phantom Menace, and I'll be dedicating this entire month of May on The Nicsperiment to the film, as I'll be reviewing much of the myriad (non-Disney) media surrounding it, including books, graphic novels, music, video games, and the film itself. And speaking of the 90s Movies Podcast, Filmshake will be releasing our awesome Phantom Menace episode less than two weeks from today (on 5/14/24).
I'm as happy as a Gungun in a swamp.
Let's do this!
