TV on the Radio -- Nine Types of Light

I got into TV on the Radio because they were different. As cookie-cutter butt rock bands like Nickelback took over the 00's rock radio airwaves, TV on the Radio stood up for originality and excellence. The band utilized unique harmonies, rhythms, electronics and sample usage, and a totally original guitar sound to create something completely new. Their work was great, and in the case of their 2006 album, Return to Cookie Mountain, perhaps perfect. Maybe that's why it's a little disappointing that Nine Types of Light is merely "good." The band's fourth album does little weird or differently. Only a couple of songs, like the lead single, "Will Do," stand out. The rest is merely...pleasant...and even a little bland. While that's okay, and I don't mind listening to the album, I won't be coming back to it as much as I do TV on the Radio's earlier work.
