Infinite Steps Forward
It's now been 105 days since I've had a stroke. Twelve days ago, I finally had
my feeding tube removed. I can eat and drink on my own again. It takes me
awhile, but I can do it. I'm still numb on my left side...but I feel like the
sensation might be coming back. I am hoping. As soon as the hole in my stomach,
which looks both like a gunshot wound and like a second belly button, heals, I
am going to try to start running again. This will be weird with a totally numb
left leg and foot, but maybe running will wake them up. I tried my hardest not
to take the last 105 days for granted. Not only am I happy to be alive after
coming so close to death's door I've got splinters, but I've tried to make the best
of my forced rest. The month of January leading up to the stroke was insane. The
last year of my life has been insane. Having to rest, to sit, to sometimes do
nothing is something that I eventually took as a gift. But now that time is
over. Tomorrow, at least part time, I am going back to work. I hope to bring
elements of restfulness back into my regular, everyday life. I feel like they
were there once, but I'd long forgotten them. I remember them now. I hope I
never again forget them. I hope I have a long life ahead of me to never again
forget them.
In a post from March 17, 2025, just 55 days ago, titled TWO STEPS BACK, I included a picture of some pizzas from Cajun Saucer, a place down here on the bayou that makes my favorite, lamenting the fact that I was physically unable to eat it. Well, a couple days ago, I drove down to Arnaudville, Louisiana, and I bought myself a C-3 Pepperoni pizza, and while it took me a full 45 minutes (I was reading while eating, so I guess that add a couple minutes too), I finished the pizza. It tasted so good.
