Uneven Structure -- 8

8/10

After perhaps inadvertently releasing their magnum opus with their first ever full-length album, Februus, Uneven Structure play it safe for their next release, re-recording their first EP, 8. The band, using their newfound powers, rework the old EP into one long, 24-minute song. The result is a pure distillation of the band's heavier, darker side. A lot of the ambient, spacier textures from Februus are still here, but in the background, with brutal, syncopated grooves in the foreground. Even with the more straightforward design, 8 manages to take some of the classical suite influence from Februus, as it revolves around a recurring, ouroboros-like motif. There's a reason the title of this album looks like an infinity sign. A worthy follow-up.
