Anton smokes weed and watches TV all day. He hasn't been to school in six months, mooches of his parents, and is generally a waste of space. One morning, Anton wakes up to find that his parents are missing and that multiple people in his town have been reported dead. The murderer? Anton...or at least, Anton's hand. Somehow, Anton's hand has gone bad...
1999's Idle Hands is so dumb. Just trying to type out the plot just now made me feel so dumb, I edited the above paragraph down to half its original length, to make that plot seem less ridiculous and nonsensical. A high school slacker's hand gets possessed by evil, starts murdering everyone in sight, and the slacker has to find some way to stop it. As that slacker, Devon Sawa brings an enjoyably demented energy, and the surrounding cast do their best to match it. The movie, a horror comedy, has some big laughs, mostly due to that cast. However, I found myself often waiting too long between those laughs, and in those interims, thinking too hard about how stupid and nonsensical the plot is. I really wish I liked this more.
